Modal Highways and Transport Planning Case Studies
We have a wide range of Clients with various requirements. These are the more recent projects which we have worked on mainly in the North West of England, however we work throughout the UK.
Kendal College Engineering Block, Milnthorpe Road, Kendal
The Phase 1 expansion of Kendal College included the building of a new engineering block within the existing campus complex. Modal was commissioned to prepare the Transport Assessment Report required to accompany the Planning Application. The Study included carrying out a traffic survey of a number of junctions within the vicinity of the College, assessing the local highway for impact and considering the accessibility of the site to students travelling by car, bus, train and those walking. Following the submission of the Report, Modal was tasked with liaising with Cumbria Highways. The scheme was granted Planning Approval without the need to carry out any Highway improvements.
Kendal Fell Business Park, Boundary Bank, Kendal
Modal is providing on-going highways advice to the Business park Owner as well as Site users with regards to the continued development of this site. Modal has carried out preliminary traffic surveys as well as prepared a number of Transport Statements for various elements of this development. To date a number of units have been granted Planning Approval for a mix of warehousing and light industrial uses.
Bradleys Sand Pit, Preston
Modal was instructed to provide traffic and transportation advice in connection with a proposal to enlarge the extraction area of the quarry. A Transport Statement was prepared and submitted to the Local Highway Authority, which demonstrated that there was no adverse impact to the local highway network. Subsequently, Planning Approval was gained and the expansion of the quarry continues.
Residential Development, St Augustines, Carlisle
Modal provided traffic and transportation advice in connection with a proposal to develop land adjoining St Augustines Church in Carlisle for residential properties. The Study included carrying out appropriate traffic surveys, providing site layout advice to the development team and preparing a Transport Statement and Road Safety Audit to accompany the Planning Application. Following discussions with the Local Authority, the Authority commissioned an independent Highways Report which when presented supported Modals Assessment. Subsequently the Planning Application was granted Planning Approval.
Trafford College, Trafford, Greater Manchester
Modal was commissioned to prepare a Travel Plan in order to satisfy a Planning Condition associated with development proposals at the College. Following consultation with the local Travel Plan Officer Modal carried out a manual and email based questionnaire survey of students and staff. The key results were summarized in a report and a list of proposals put forward that Trafford College could implement to help reduce single occupancy car usage. In addition Modal suggested timescales for implementing schemes, targets the College should aim to achieve.
